After re-building my Topsky and using .030 carbon pushrods for rudder and elevator, Today I flew it several times on my strip at home. On one very gentle landing, I did what is called a ground loop (the tail trys to move out in front of the fuselage after landing) and heard a very quiet "snap". I noticed that the very end of the carbon pushrod for the rudder snapped in half. Now, it IS only .030" so I guess I am not too surprised. When I was making my pushrods, I cut them with a very small dykes so maybe that causes it to break further down the rod? Maybe next time I'll cut them with a dremel cut off?
I would imagine that I can fix this in no more than about 1/2 hour by putting an extension onto the rod or spend the $1.20 at Hub and buy another lenght of carbon.
Fly on!
