Minutes of the February, 2008 MRCSS Meeting

Call to Order

This meeting was held at the Southdale Public Library and President David Engelson called it to order just after 7PM.

Old Business

The only officers present were the President and Vice-president so there was no update on our finances, membership or previous months recorded minutes.

David Engelson gave us an update on his efforts to identify new club hats. He presented three different samples for us to evaluate. Each included a neck flap and our logo on the front. The samples were passed around and a vote was taken to see which design was most favored. After two rounds of voting a first, second and third choice was identified. Dave will return with more information on pricing and availability next month.

Dave also showed two new club logos that he had put together for us to review. For the time being, the new logo will just be used on the new hats.

Bob Waldridge brought his supply of club T-shirts and sold several more of them.

Larry Sorenson let folks know that this evening was their last chance to place their order for servos and/or receivers for their club project, the Gambler. Larry collected a few checks before the meeting was over.

New Business

No new business was presented.

Presentation

Mike Trutwin and Augie McKibben gave a presentation on scratch building high performance sailplanes. Both spoke on the projects they are currently working on and then they did a brief compare and contrast on the two. Mike if building a Supra and Augie is working on another Genie.

Quite a bit of time was spent discussing bagging a wing. This discussion included talk of tools, materials and construction techniques. Both also had parts of their models on hand to pass around for us to examine. There really was a lot of information provided and this brief synopsis only covers a small part of it.

Show and Tell

Both Larry Sorenson and Dave Engelson had their Gambler AG discus launched gliders on hand for everyone so see. The Gambler is this years club project with roughly 14 members building one. It seems that Larry and Dave are the furthest along on their models. Both are looking great so far!

Unfortunately, thats all for this month. I probably left some things out, but I did not take notes at the meeting. It was several weeks afterwards that I realized our secretary missed the meeting and nobody else had taken notes. So this is all we have for February.

See you next month!
