January 20th, 2005 MRCSS Meeting

Call to Order

Augie McKibben opened his first meeting as President by welcoming a room full of long time members and one special member from up north. Fred Sanford was a sight for soar eyes…or something along those lines. Good to see you Fred!

Old Business

Freeze Fly – David Engleson said the group had a good two hours of flying before some bad weather moved in New Years Day afternoon. An estimated 16 members showed up and did some flying and conversing, and no one got hurt. Good fun! A good number of the flyers made a hasty retreat to Famous Dave’s in Uptown for a late lunch. Thanks for coming out boys… let’s do it again next year.

New Business

Membership Dues

Kevin Kavaney said that membership dues are due in March. You do it right Kevin, thanks.

Summer Meetings

Augie proposed having the club monthly meetings for June and July at the flying site before a contest or fun fly. He explained that other clubs do this not only for a change of pace, but it also allows other people to come to the meetings who might not otherwise be able to. Willie Allshouse added that he has seen this work in other clubs and thought it was a good idea. If it rains we would have our normal meeting the following week. All present approved the plan for June and July.

Building Projects

Mirage - Jim Ladwig said he would check dates at Washburn High School for access to their shop.

Frequency Boards – Ed Berris will discuss this at the February meeting.

Battery Building – David Fisher asked if anyone would be interested in making battery packs as a group. Ten members were interested and Jack Perecman said he had a cheap source of batteries and that he would send out an e-mail to the club for orders. Thanks for taking charge Jack.

Show and Tell

Bill Jones showed off his new ASW-27 from LET. This German made, 2.5 meter, 1/6 scale was a beauty. Bill said that it comes very well made, weighs 53 oz., and is made for the slope. He added that it uses thin Diamond D-60 servos. Thanks Bill.

Kevin Kavaney showed his plug and mold for a project he started with Mike Martindale. It is another sloper based on the Rodent II. He uses carbon tow – heavy strands that soak up epoxy, leaving very few air pockets if any. Kevin is planning to build a 54”-60” wing for it and added a full flying stab because he could not locate the angle of incidence. Can’t wait to this plane in the air. Go Kevin.

Ib Jensen showed off his new Colibri sloper. Ib said that it is a great flying plane even though he has broken and repaired the fuse many times. He suggests to beef up the fuse at the back of the canopy and have fun. Thanks Ib!

Another good meeting guys! See you at the flying sites.
