Minutes of the November, 2005 MRCSS meeting held November 22, 2005

24 Members present, Edina Public Library

President Augie McKibben called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

First item of business: OFFICERS FOR 2006. Members were asked if they were willing to accept a slightly irregular process used in the previous (October) meeting in electing club officers for 2006. Agreement was unanimous: For 2006, our President is Adam Koller, our Vice President Dave Fisher. Other officers will continue to serve as in 2005.

A LOCATION FOR MONTHLY MEETINGS was discussed next. After evaluating costs and comparing convenience of alternative sites, members agreed to continue meeting at the present venue, the Southdale library, for at least the next few months.

To avoid penalty a penalty charge, MEMBERSHIP DUES FOR 2006 should be paid by December 31. Send a check only (no cash) to Kevin Kavaney at this address:

5115 Colfax Ave. South
Minneapolis, MN 55419

WEBSITE With praise for his excellent work on our website, members released Bill Kuhl from his position of Webmaster and chose Mike Glaser to fill the position for the coming year.

PROJECTS Ed Berris brought us up to date on the group that will begin January 9th to work together on designated Wednesday evenings to learn shaping techniques, wing assembly, etc. in the joint construction of several different slope soaring models.

VOTE FOR BILL We were reminded Bill Rakozy has been officially nominated for the position of Secretary of LSF (League of Silent Flight). If you are vote eligible, give Bill your support. Ballots on the web.

ELECTRIC POWERED GLIDERS. Several members expressed their interest in learning more about electrics. Dave Edmonson, Larry Sorenson and Rich Ness will be asked to provide a talk/demo. Further, Ed Berris suggested we have a joint event with the MARCEE club for a exchange of ideas and just plain fun. Ed volunteered to coordinate the event.

Dave Engleson reminded us to carry the bright pink MRCSS info cards to our events and to display them at hobby shops. New membership is both welcome and vital.

NEW YEAR’S DAY FREEZE FLY -- Dave also reminded us to think about and prepare for the annual winter event on January 1st. More info follows.

The spring-summer-fall CONTEST SCHEDULE will be a prime subject of our December 15th meeting here at the Southdale Library.

Kevin K. generated ooohs and ahhhs with his massively beautiful 4.3 meter, 9-channel ASW-27 scale model (approx. 35 pounds). He described its unusual rudder design and some of the pleasures of flying tow-launched models.

At the other extreme, Dave Engleson countered with his partially-built mini ASK-18, a 25” wingspan, all-balsa and built from a 3-view plan. Dave claims he will use it for indoor towing.

Augie Doggie passed around his newly acquired, Pacific Sailplanes’ molded fuselage he plans to use on his new, winter-built Genie.

Finally, the important task of group-signing many Christmas Cards to be sent as an expression of our thanks to owners of our flying fields was enthusiastically completed by all present.

Respectfully submitted,
Vern Bailey
